In English ‘tidings‘ means both ‘high water’ and ‘news’. So it is an appropriate name for this iPhone app which allows enthusiasts of Venice’s acqua alta, the tides which occasionally flood parts of the city, to send news to each other about flood-related sights, accidents and weird happenings as they occur. Recipients of these newsflashes can either rush to enjoy the spectacle together, or just enjoy the photos and videos.
Avoiding a traditional rigid layout and the use of buttons, ‘Tidings’ encourages instead visible, indeed theatrical, gestures.
