… Prototype

Device

The application has been developed to be used on a smartphone with:accelerometer, touch screen, GpS, 3G connection, integrated photocamera. For this project our reference device was the iPhone 3GS.

On our prototype we developed the principal interactions.In this versions the interface works with the mouse, but it can be adapted for a touch-screen approach and uploaded on the iPhone with iProcessing. We created two processing sketches, one for the sender view and the other one for the receiver view.

Sender view

The main actions available to the user are:

  • scroll the background in the home and friends page;
  • see the personal profile and the friends page clicking on the windows;
  • go to the map clicking on the small lifebuoy;
  • take a picture and share a ‘tiding’ clicking on the on the main door.

Receiver view

The principal interaction available is a rising wave which indicates to the user a new received tiding.

The user can also view its content clicking on the bottle.

Click to the two small iPhones to see the prototypes in action. A web page will open with the application running. The loading takes a while. (Only tested on Safari)

Thanks to Steffen Klaue, we also code the accelerometer part and put it on the iPhone.

This video shows the interaction that ideally “drops” the message into the water.
