…critical reflections

Positive aspects

We are happy with the results obtained by this application. Musicians and non-musicians took part in the music. The music will not be chosen or created by a single person (DJ) but created by those who use this application.

No musical knowledge is required, only your personal taste, to create a dance track.

The application allows users to interact virtually a real interaction between the audience will follow the performance and improvised musician.

What we need to improve

A major theme is the interaction between two devices and how to realize this part of code. We want to generate a third sound controlled by the distance between the two devices and activated via Bluetooth or via wireless connection.

Also to be investigater is a timing device for a performance in which all members follow a common time. We wondered how to determine the speed of the track (bpm). If it was always fixed or if the first user to connect to the application determine a it.

Another question is the number of participants; we chose to simplify the application, giving a maximum of six per performance but we would be pleased to extend the application to more users to increase the range of sounds to choose from and perhaps increase their possible interactions. Maybe we need to change the graphics accordingly.

Imagining a future for this application we wonder if we should double the range of filters to enrich the tracks during the performance.

Regarding the volume of sound produced by the IPhone we imagine a possible link between IPhone and Bluetooth or wireless speaker for the performance. This in view of application usage in environments different from those imagined in Venice, where the absence of traffic allows you to hear sound quite well.

With a view to future entry into iTunes it would be useful to test the program with people of various ages to understand if it is necessary to increase the interface with text commands. We chose to remove these from the screens to let the user discover how to use Synthonia by experimenting with it through their movements and the sound.

We would also like to develop a network that would allow users to share interests get to, know each other, and plan events.
