… concept

Our original concept came from the Water Lanterns Festival in China and the drifting bottle. These two different ideas have a common feature: they drift on the water and take away hopes and wishes. A drifting bottle can only be received by one person, but we wanted to design our application in a more open way. Our users can contact with each other through origami floated on the water.

We designed for young people of between 17-35 years, who we hope are receptive to new things, and can help us to improve the whole system. We wanted to create a more open communication for Venice. Normal life includes not only the family and friends but also strangers. We wanted to give people a poetic way to get to know each other, and to pay attention to the things happening around them. Nowadays a lot of information impacts on our lives. We can easily get information from our computer and mobile phone. But this is not the aim of our application.

In our application users use their body movements to complete the process. Blowing on screen the flower sends a message to the origami. The user must follow the origami to obtain the signal. The interaction between the people and origami. We can’t control the origami on the water because the water takes it anywhere it wants.

The user does not know who will reply or who will read the messages. It depends on the person and on the water. Sometimes the origami just sinks in the sea there is no reply.

Uncertainty is a feature of our application, and of life.
