The ideal user of Synthonia app is anyone, especially non-musicians, interested in the medium and familiar technological devices. But we also hope that non-participating bystanders will also enjoy the spectacle.
The app allows people to create music with others in real time, to choose from predefined sounds, and to play interacting with the app and other users.
Synthonia makes user the protagonist of a sound, vision and physical performance.

Our references are electronic musical instruments like the synthesizer, drum machine, and the reactable.
The Synthesizer uses filters and tone generators to create waveforms which are then processed to generate sound. We found interesting aspects such as the modulation of sounds, the addition of filters and effects, and the possibility to change all the sounds in real time.
The drum machine imitates the sound of drums or other percussion instruments. From this we take the idea of a composing grid and the loop track.
The Reactable is tabletop tangible user interface. We studied the interaction between the different objects used and the interaction of the users to change effects and modulate the sounds. We found very interesting the graphic and visual feedback of the sound modulations.
