More Details

Location

The installation is in the Calle dei Albanesi, next to Palazzo Ducale (San Marco, Venice). This location was chosen for the following reasons:
- It is aligned on the north-south axis
- It is always in shadow except around midday
- There is a blank brick wall on one side that is perfect to project on
The project has been thought for this location even though, at the present moment, the Calle is occupied by a scaffolding which doesn’t leave any place for an installation.

Physical Elements

- Sunlight
- 2 Top Mirrors (placed on the roofs with a motor and timer to follow the sun)
- Grid of Round Mirrors (50×3)
- 152 Servomotors
- 2 Walls
- Videocameras (instead of 150 Photodetectors - Belle Arti prohibition)
- Arduino 10000

Scenario

Just imagine an early morning,
the sun has risen about an hour ago…
You are walking as usual through Calle dei Albanesi,
another day of work…
The air is humid, slightly foggy,
the whole calle is in darkness…
Faces of people slip by your side unnoticed,
it is quite dark to actually view…

How many times you wished you could encounter their eyes?
How many times you wished the sun could warm those cold mornings up?
How many times sun surprised your eyesight form unexpected angles and corners?
Imagine to be walking through drops of lights? Imagine how would it be to interact with them?

It could be like this, Rainbeam…

Emotional Tone

The emotional tone would vary in reason of users behaviour. The faster and caotic the users movement the more vivid and dynamic would be the system reply. Nonetheless, since we are dealing with sunlight, the feeling provided should somehow be delicate, in other words, natural.
