Antonio Altomare (b. 1984, Molfetta, near Bari) gained his first degree, in Industrial Design and Graphic Design, at the Politecnico di Bari. He then worked as a graphic designer, and took part at design workshops like Icograda Design Week with the Dutch studio LUST, and with Luciano Perondi at the Politecnico di Bari. In 2009 he began his first year of the Masters programme in Visual and Multimedia Communication, Faculty of Design and Arts, Iuav University of Venice. Other interests: graphic novels and dub music.

Alessandro Arena (b. 1985, Palermo) gained his first degree cum laude, in Industrial Design, at the Politecnico di Palermo; his thesis project was “HELP! Via Messina Montagne”. In 2008 he worked for Palermo graphics studio FeedBack. His project CIO_STIL won first prize in the RiCioc workshop, his project assiettati came second in the Segni di Ficuzza competition, and the February 2008 and May 2009 issues of Ottagono featured sustainability projects in which he was part of the design team. In 2009 he began his first year of the Masters programme in Visual and Multimedia Communication, Faculty of Design and Arts, Iuav University of Venice.

Silvia Boscolo, born in Italy in 1985, obtained her Diploma at Venice’s Liceo Artistico (arts high school) before studying urban planning for a year. She gained her first degree, in Industrial Design, at the Faculty of Design and Arts, Iuav University of Venice, and in 2009 began her last year of Iuav’s Masters programme in Visual and Multimedia Communication. In 2007 she did a 3-month internship with the Municipality of Treviso, near Venice, redesigning their website. Her main interest is now interaction design, and in 2009 she took part in the organization of Teach Me 6 (’Very Very Stupid’), Venice’s Festival of Visual Communication.

Gianni Cardone, born in Turin, gained his first degree, in Industrial Design, at the Politecnico di Torino. During his second year there he spent ten months in Belgium at the Institut Supérieur des Beaux Arts Saint-Luc de Liège. He worked for two years as a product designer for Turin-based outdoor sports company Ferrino, and since 2006 for Turin/Venice design studio Pera Nera. In 2009 he founded Akiratek, a company developing software applications for Android phones, and began his first year of the Masters programme in Visual and Multimedia Communication, Faculty of Design and Arts, Iuav University of Venice. His specialism is interaction design.

Alberto Elizondo (b. 1985, San José, Costa Rica) obtained his first degree in Graphic Design at VERITAS University, San José, and in 2009 began his first year of the Masters programme in Visual and Multimedia Communication, Faculty of Design and Arts, Iuav University of Venice. In San José he was a designer for the marketing studio Lift Brand, and an intern in the graphic design department of the NGO Funpadem. He has volunteered in Habitat for Humanity projects in Central America, UNICEF and government-sponsored projects. He would like to combine interaction design with similar development projects. He is fluent in English, Spanish and conversational Italian.

Alessandro Filippi (b. 1983, Venice) took his first degree, in Visual Arts and Theatre, at the Faculty of Design and Arts, Iuav University of Venice, and in 2009 began his second year of Iuav’s Masters programme in Visual and Multimedia Communication. He has designed and implemented websites for companies and art projects in XHTML, CSS and Flash ActionScript 2.0 and 3.0; he uses 3D Studio MAX and V-Ray for photo-realistic rendering, and is familiar with Adobe’s Design Suite CS3 and Audition. His hobby, digital photography, has developed his expertise in reflex cameras and raw image formats, and his interest in electronic music has involved him in mastering and mixing for local groups. He was twice finalist in the Samsung Young Design Award, coming 10th in 2007 and 3rd in 2008.

Elisa Manente (b. 1984) gained her first degree, in Visual Arts and Theatre, at the Faculty of Design and Arts, Iuav University of Venice. Over 2004–07 she worked as video artist and participated in several exhibitions, including “The Private Eye: A Prologue”, curated by Nicolas Bourriaud in 2006, at Ljubljana’s Contemporary Art Museum. She is now in her first year of Iuav’s Masters programme in Visual and Multimedia Communication. Her main interests: video art, graphic and interaction design.

Alberto Moro (b. 1981, Treviso, near Venice) took his first degree, in Information Engineering, at Padua University; his thesis was a web portal which recognized vowels using text-to-speech and voice-recognition technologies. His interest in web and interaction design began in 2004 when he began working with the web agency TSW, near Treviso. He was an interaction design intern in Treviso technology incubator H-Farm, and is now a freelance web designer. In 2009 he designed and executed an interactive art exhibition in Pola, Croatia, as part of the Random Clapping collective, and began his second year of the Masters programme in Visual and Multimedia Communication, Faculty of Design and Arts, Iuav University of Venice. Carla Piazza (b. 1985) gained her first degree cum laude, in Industrial Design, at Palermo University. She had spent an Erasmus semester at A Coruña University, Spain, and for three months was a video editor intern at the Palermo audiovisual production studio Forward. In 2008 and 2009 the design magazine Ottagono published two sustainability projects of which she was part of the design team. She is now in her first year of the Masters programme in Visual and Multimedia Communication, Faculty of Design and Arts, Iuav University of Venice. Roberto Picerno, born in 1984, grew up in Puglia. He gained his first degree, in Graphic Design, in the Faculty of Architecture, Politecnico di Bari. His final project: TipicoNonTipico: A Hypothesis for a New Identity for the Italian Regions. He worked as freelance graphic designer during his studies, and has participated in typography and video workshops. In 2009 he began his first year of the Masters programme in Visual and Multimedia Communication, Faculty of Design and Arts, Iuav University of Venice. His ambition is to study sacred images. Marco Righetto (b. 1985) in 2004 was an Italian member of the Model European Parlament (MEP). He gained his undergraduate degree cum laude in Media and Communication at Padua University, publishing his prethesis essay (with Nicola Negrin and Francesco Rossetto)  on the Lombardy Institute of Journalists.
An enthusiastic video-maker, he has attended workshops with Mike Mills and PES,
and shot a mini-documentary shown at the 11th Venice Biennale of Architecture 2008, for CheckIn Architecture. In 2009 he spent six months as an Erasmus student at EINA, Barcelona’s art and design school, and was a semifinalist of the Adobe Design Achievement Award in the mobile design category with the project Piscator (with Alessandro Filippi and Aurora Biancardi). He is now in the last year of the Masters programme in Visual and Multimedia Design, Faculty of Design and Arts, Iuav University of Venice, specialising in interaction design. Erika Rossi obtained her Diploma at the Institute of Arts, Ferrara, and attended a 3-month internship in Bologna communication agency Mollusco e Balena, with whom she still collaborates on graphic projects such as logos, brochures, and websites. She gained full marks in her first degree, in Industrial Design, at the Faculty of Design and Arts, Iuav University of Venice, and is now in her last year of Iuav’s Masters programme in Visual and Multimedia Communication, specialising in interaction design. She loves all kinds of art and design, works in an artistic ceramics workshop, and models by hand; her main interests are illustration, new media, graphic and interaction design. In 2008 her project for a teaspoon, “Lello”, was selected for the Nutella & Fruits competition sponsored by Interni magazine and won a week’s internship with product designer Giulio Iacchetti. And in 2009 her project “la città delle capre gialle”, based on six hand-illustrations, won the Giovane Grafica Italiana competition, sponsored by the City of Milan and the graphic studio Camuffo Lab, and a 3-day internship with graphic designers Erik Kessels, Richard Van der Laken and Harmen Liemburg.

Fosca Salvi, born in 1988, gained her first degree in Design at Milan’s NABA (Nuova Accademia di Belle Arti) and for nine months was an intern at Milan design consultancy Interaction Design Lab (Id-Lab), working on a projects related to organizing exhibitions and events. In 2009 she spent several months studying English and attending summer courses at the City Lit Institute, London, and began her first year of the Masters programme in Visual and Multimedia Communication, Faculty of Design and Arts, Iuav University of Venice. Matteo Stocco (b. 1986, Dolo, near Venice) gained his first degree, in Visual Arts and Theatre, at the Faculty of Design and Arts, Iuav University of Venice, where in 2009 he began his first year of the Masters programme in Visual and Multimedia Communication. As an artist operating mainly with video installations and photography, he worked during 2007–09 as videomaker with Venice multimedia agency Circuitozero, and in 2009 began making videos freelance. His main interests are interaction design, art and cinema. He belongs to the artists collective Videotrope.

Fabrizio Tronchin (b.1984, Treviso, near Venice) took his first degree, in Industral Design, at the Faculty of Design and Arts, Iuav University of Venice, and is now in his final year of Iuav’s Masters programme in Visual and Multimedia Communication. In 2007 he worked for six months with Treviso printers Grafiche San Vito, learning printing processes and how to arrange files and graphic works, and since 2008 has created corporate identities for communication agency Raderwerk in Mogliano Veneto, near Treviso. He loves drawing, computers, comics and videogames, and is now creating a horror/adventure game, “Noctu”, based on the dark atmosphere of H.P. Lovecraft. His dream: to create a software house specializing in game-development.

Nicola Vittori was born in Gorizia, north-east Italy. After his undergraduate degree, in Industrial Design, at Iuav University of Venice, he worked for the furniture company Casamania in Treviso, near Venice; as consultant for Touring Club Italiano, Milan; and for Treviso printers Antiga. He designed a video scenography for a Carlo De Pirro opera in Venice’s Music Biennale; worked for art group Gruppo T, reconstructing its 1960s artworks and interactive environments; and taught with Giovanni Anceschi on Iuav’s Basic Design course. His projects have been exhibited at the Milan Furniture Fair Satellite, and won awards in a competitions promoted by Treviso furniture company Frezza, and the Milan design incubator OPOS.
