Context of use
The Madeleine application is set in a hypothetical Italo-French Venice, during the twenties.
While developing the service we focused a lot on the historical and technological context, to create a convincing scenario.
Since the application is set in a historical period we looked for inventions that could justify the presence of a mobile device, like, for example, the evolution of the battery.
We developed the interactions based on the behavior of the people of that time and their technological and cultural knowledge.
The following video shows you the events that take us to the scenario in which Madeleine is envisaged.
Technology required
The G-Phone has a microphone, speaker, touch screen and a fax, that scans photographic plates and sound rolls .
The presence of an antenna inside the G-Phone allows the user to move while using the device. It can record two hundred images or sounds and has a battery that lasts two hours.
The user will find the application already installed.

Interface
The interface is based on the metaphor of the attic, a place where people store objects that remind them of important moments of their life.
The graphic is strongly influenced by the Surrealist art movement, born in the 1920, that give to the application a dreamlike feeling, reflecting the way memories often come to us in a incoherent way, modified by dreams and thoughts.
main screen
The menus are almost exclusively textual, using the French font Garamond.
When the finger of the user is over an option a spot of light appear under it and between each screen there is a fade-out transition.

When the users need to insert some text, for instance when they want to share a memory, a typewriter appears.

The secret room is characterized by a dark mood and an insecure feeling. The screen is all black and you can discover the space only a little bit at a time, moving a spot of light. The objects are placed inside the room in an untidy way; the menu is also darker.
