3. Process

Initially our idea was based on the need for ecological and health awareness. We had imagined a Venice were people were fat and lazy and a general lack of energy sources forced the authorities to search for a solution. The idea involved motivating people to exercise by paying them with exchangeable credits. The energy produced by exercising could be stored and used as a power source thus solving the health and ecological crisis.

The fitness idea was abandoned after the first week because we felt it lack potential to be explored within a Venetian context. We began to brainstorm and explore how we could take that idea into a new level. One more edgy and radical. We thought about turning around the concept of fitness and create a program that motivated laziness, but as we continue to explore we started to develop the concept about fashion as a political approach. Our first idea evolved around the concept of fashion and fascism (fashism). We thought the idea could be misinterpreted but we continue to explore the possibilities of this scenario.

We settled on the idea of a society that champions an elite lifestyle. The benefits of being part of this group are vast. A member for example for can find a political position with more ease; however, the conditions for being part of this group are tough. Based on this idea we started to develop a system that controlled members who wanted to be part of the group. The system would control their actions and decisions so the strict policies and image of the society wouldn’t be violated. Initially the program would control the eating habits, speech capabilities and dress code. We decided to focus our efforts on the dress code system.

After deciding on the main direction of the concept we began with the graphics and the step through of the interaction. In this step we came upon different approaches and took the best ideas to merge them into the final prototype.

Mood board

Before starting with graphic style we created a mood board, by photomountage and keywords choice. It was useful for define the atmosphere, and the general mood of the application.

Graphic

For the graphic style of the application we initially designed three concepts. The first adopted a style based on images, the other two favored an approach based on the use of icons and a minimalist layout. The final solution took the best of the three and merge it into the final graphic style. The following images are the diverse proposals that were merged into the final graphic.
