1. Concept

«So, what is time? If none asks me, I know; but if somwone asks me to explain it, suddenly I don’t know any more».

«Che cos’è dunque il tempo? Se nessuno me lo chiede, lo so; se voglio spiegarlo a chi me lo chiede, non lo so più»

Sant’Agostino (Confessioni)

scenario

Imagine that in a hypothetical future, Venice has become the financial capital of Europe. The image of the city has changed; the most famous architects have designed structures that float over the old Venice: offices, banks and so on that are open 24/24.

Imagine being a businessman, doing nothing but work. Your days are marked only by the work ahead. Everyone is stressed and sad. Venice has become the unhappy city.

You have the impression of living in an eternal present, perceiving no difference between one day and another. You work all the time, knowing only pauses for food and sleep.

Drawing the new image of Venice, we were inspired by Yona Friedman’s works and by Frits Lang’s Metropolis: a repetitive and monotonous “working time”, in which people don’t work to live but live to work.

. “unfold” users, as an origami, giving them relaxation.

. create connexions between users very different from those in their worklife;

. store comments left by the users about their “kyo experience”;

criteria for success

Create an application that tries to slow down and relax for a while the users, giving them awarness of the time and surprising them through an unusual and enjoyable way of suggestion. Realize a prototype that shows and lets enjoy how our idea works.
