PHYSICAL PROTOTYPING

The first protoypes were made with simple white paper, 400 g, easy to work with and sufficiently resistent. Their goal was to allow us to find the right size for the boxes and to make it possible to try different interactions.

For the final prototypes we needed a more resistent material, because the mecchanical components put the objects under a lot of stress and paper wasn’t strong enough. So we chose Forex, not only for its strength, but also because of its physical aspect, white and smooth, and the ease with which you can work it.

SOUND PROTOTYPING

Unfortunately we couldn’t use the wave shield for the prototype, because we didn’t have the skills to write the code in the time available.

Instead we connected the two elements (microphone and speaker) to our computers and we controlled them with Processing.

TELECOMMUNICATION PROTOTYPING

For the prototype we didn’t use a web server, but simply shared two folders (server and client) which contained the respective Processing code and the sound recorded by the device.

Every time a box saves a sound in its folder, a message is sent to the other Processing program which connects immediately to the Arduino and activates the box.
When the box/arduino receives the right input (light or contact or Processing signal) it answers with the respective output (play or record the message).
