A hypothetical Venice in which almost the city has been converted into a multidisciplinary campus with highly advanced laboratories financed by the State, the faculties and local and international industries.
Towards the end of the 2020 century Venice was almost abandoned by its inhabitants. To save the city from extinction, the Venice administration, supported by the European Union, started to buy buildings from the owners and push the universities of the region to move into Venice. This ambitious project was called Marco Polo.
The project was a great success, and by the end of 2025, Venice become one of the biggest university campuses in Europe and, by far, the one with most faculties.
In 2026 the Marco Polo campus became the first Multiversity in the world.
The most interesting innovations introduced by the Marco Polo campus was the special thesis system that allows the best multidisciplinary projects to be developed inside dedicated studio boats.
These special projects have complete access to all the facilities and are equipped to collaborate with all the students in the Multiversity.
Starting from 2026, this extraordinary and unique project development system has been managed via a mobile device loaded with a new dedicated software that shares with the system the same name: Magellan.

Goals:
- Allow thesis students to manage their projects, set their boat’s route, book facilities and find the best collaborators
- Allow collaborators to find projects to join and collaborate with captains according to their skills and interests
Criteria for success:
Realize an application that embodies the concept of a movable studio approach that continues the metaphor of great explorers, crossing the borders between different areas of knowledge and discovering new ones.
