We programmed Cinomadic’s application for a mobile phone with a screen resolution of 240 x 320 pixel and Java compatible, in the spcific we used Nokia N73.

We programmed with Mobile Processing (mobile.processing.org). It is an open source that involve people to design and prototype software for mobile phone. It use a programmation language and it is quite difficoult to learn in the beginning. But in the web site there are tutorials, examples and library that help people to understand this program.

For our application is necessary that the mobile phone has GPS.  ”GPS [global positioning system] is a worldwide radio-navigation system formed from the constellation of 24 satellites and their ground stations. It is a system mainly used to locate the user’s position at a time. The GPS satellite circles the earth twice a day in a precise orbit and transmits signal information to earth. GPS receivers take into this information and use ‘triangulation method’ to calculate the user’s exact location.” (Wikipedia)

It is indispensable to use GPS because it is necessary that user’s position and projection site will be visualize in real time. We didn’t programme this phase because it is very complex and take long time. The problem is that in Venice GPS doesn’t work very well.

Users can download Cinomadic application by using Semacode. We want to put some Cinomadic’s posters around Venice in which are printed semacode. “Using Semacode software, a URL can be converted into a type of barcode resembling a crossword puzzle, which is called a “tag”. Tags can be quickly captured with a mobile phone’s camera and decoded to obtain a web site address. This address can then be accessed via the phone’s web browser.”
